The Flutewise Project
Playing together and performing is so important for everyone involved with music; it helps with developing musical skills, builds confidence and team work but most importantly, it’s FUN!
Here is your opportunity to be involved in this exciting project which will encourage you to perform and use your musical skills whether you are an absolute beginner or have been playing for many years.
Founded in 1988, Flutewise has brought together flute players of all levels and ages to enjoy music and community. With over 600 events and nearly 50,000 participants, we’ve always been all about inclusivity and fun. Our extensive archive of ensemble music is designed with varying parts to make sure everyone can join in.
Our Aims:
To inspire more people to pick up the flute and start playing.
To support teachers in building their practice and delivering an outstanding, tailored curriculum.
To create opportunities for players to enjoy making music together and performing as an ensemble.
The Scheme in a Nutshell:
The Flutewise Project is planned to run for a 3-year period, with new beginners welcome to join at any point—preferably at the start of a term.
Each term, we’ll provide 3 (or more) core pieces and exercises for everyone to learn, plus 3 ensemble pieces to perform at the end of the term.
At the end of each term, teachers are encouraged to bring all their students together to showcase the ensemble pieces. We also encourage teachers to team up with others in their area for mass ensemble performances—whether that’s a fun termly get-together or a grand annual event!
The scheme is super flexible when it comes to instruments and music choices. Players can begin on fife, Toot, Nuvo flute, recorder, or any flute (curved or straight head joint), and switch to a standard flute when they’re ready. Teachers have the freedom to use whichever flute tutor book best suits their students.
We will launch The Flutewise Project in September 2025 with the first ever National Flutewise Play In!
